European Union: Malta's Final Destination?

Station seven of the History Trail was the exhibit on "Malta and the EU." Susanne Abel and Nina Schneider presented their interviews of Maltese students on the pros and cons of Malta's entering the EU, as well as the history of Malta's connection with the European Community/Union. The tapes of both those interviews and Phil Mothershaw's interview with the EU Office in Valletta can be made available to anyone who wants to hear the Maltese voices "live."

After reading through the transcripts and other material on this website, as well as our GLC prediction on whether or not Malta will join the European Union (click on "excursion > projects > Malta and EU"), let us know if you agree with us! And be watching the news in September to see the outcome of Malta's referendum on membership and its parliamentary elections. The opposition Labour Party has sworn NOT to enter the EU if they are elected into power, no matter what the outcome of the referendum - it looks as there will be political fireworks ahead!!
