Puppet Show
We thought about what we could contribute to our Maltese
Market. We wanted to deal a traditional aspect of the Maltese
culture. So we decided to stage a puppet show based on a Maltese
folktale, "The Fisherman's Son".
First we planned how to build our puppet theatre and how to
change the text into a dialog. Each of us was responsible
for something: Mona built the theatre and brought the puppets,
Manuela changed the text into a dialog, Sharon organised the
boxes and Judit painted a poster which showed the times of
performance. She also made a house for the stage which could
be changed into a school.
When we had everything we needed for the show, we soon realised
that we still had plenty to do. We had to decide on whether
to use a microphone or not and whether we needed more scenery.
After an initial rehearsal, we came to the conclusion that
a microphone was necessary, as was more scenery and more elaborate
folklore embellishment of the whole theatre.
Although we prepared everything carefully, some problems emerged
during the performance with passing the microphone around
and keeping invisible behind the stage. But we improved with
each performance, our audiences seemed pleased, and we found
the project indeed rewarding!
