Victims on the way to the "Maltese Market"
Facts and Figures
For weeks we could not think of anything else
the days
were racing towards the 13th June when the big event was to
take place - difficult and time-intensive preparations forced
everybody to work as hard as possible. We have even heard
of somebody who in fact was not able to sleep the nights before
the market
But let's get down to facts: there were at least 50 students
who took part in the market's organisation
and so much
more: Matthias, who had to sing the amusing Maltese Calypso,
some older students who always had useful solutions, and last
but not least Cathy and Phil, who were in a way the "beating
heart" of the whole project.
But even this was not enough for the success of our mission.
More than ten display boards, fully crowded with any material
the project groups could find, (which in fact means 100 kilos)
had to be prepared and carried to the "Audimax"
(you might imagine that some muscles are still aching). More
than 30 big sheets of wallpaper where used to present all
the collected information (and even to cover everything behind
the food-bar). For this we also needed kilometres of sticking-tape,
kilos of glue, several big black markers, and one damaged
hand!
The food group sold 20 litres of Kinnie, and many bottles
of Guinness and Brown Ale. For the cocktails, one guy got
up at 5.30 am to get 10 kilos of crushed ice from the Kreuztal
fishmarket. We created several pieces of "bread and oil"
from six baguettes and more than twenty tomatoes
not
to forget the large quantities of flour a grandmother used
to create the yummy "honey ring."
You see, all in all a few hard weeks for the hard(ly) working
Anglistik-students of Siegen University!
