Gozo Day from "A" (Azure Window) to "P" (Pizza)

Friday, May 10

The long-anticipated "Gozo Day"! Gozo is the second largest of the Maltese isles and has its own culture and dialect, thrilling landscape features, and architectural treasures. The boat trip through the "Azure Window" rock formation was for many the top highlight of the excursion. The pilgrimage basilica "Ta' Pinu," Calypso's Rock from the Odyssey, the "oldest free-standing temple in the world" Ggantija, a traditional windmill, and the city of Victoria with its formidable Citadel. We realized how close we were to Italy when we tasted the pizzas in the seaside restaurant in Qala. Our ferry passed close to Comino, the smallest of the Maltese islands. We returned to Valletta just in time for a grand fireworks show, a real Maltese specialty!
