Look at the streamers, balloons, Irish flag, and the giant "Welcome
to the Irish Fair" sign! We had to ask the University electrician to
lend us his long ladder and assistance. If you look carefully, you can
see come of the exhibitions and the bistro tables in the background.
Mary Mädler, Nina Mies, Klara Muschal, and Sarah Valder were
officially responsible for the decorating, but many others helped. Several
students have described their adventures in decorating the Fair area
- see the "student assessments" by Klara and Sarah; Nina's text is here

Semester in Orange-White-Green
A friend of mine is going to immigrate to the "Green
Isle" as soon as she has finished her studies. From my point of view,
Ireland meant nothing more to me than Guinness, sheep, shamrocks and,
not to be forgotten, "Lord of the Dance." At least at the beginning
of the semester.
But thanks to Cathy we were to learn not only facts about Irish culture
but even how to organize an Irish fair we can be proud of. In no time
we found ourselves making garlands, inflating about 300 colourful balloons
that turned out to be as big as eggs and discussing how to hang up Irish
flags (if you need to know which colour must be where-don´t ask Phil!)
in the Audimax area. Although Cathy had to admit that we would probably
kill ourselves climbing on chairs and tables searching for the best
places for our decoration material we decided that it was worth it.
Apart from the decoration in orange-white-green, Irish music, food and
lots of information given by display boards created an atmosphere that
presented a very lively impression of a beautiful country that provides
something attractive for everyone.
.....This was the day I started to realize why my friend is fascinated
by Ireland-and that I will visit her as soon as possible.
