Birgit Jüngst in Dublin with Janine Breuer-Kolo and Ana Triantafillaki in Siegen compared Irish and German newspapers for the days of the excursion, May 23-28. The Champions League final game provided a sports highlight, and European issues were discussed in newspapers in both countries. Particularly in Dublin the news was dominated by the upcoming referendum on the "Nice (= Nizza) Treaty," which many Irish groups of all politicial leanings did not find "nice" at all. Dublin was plastered with the "Vote No" signs you see in the photo below! As we now know, the Irish indeed voted against the treaty, a development which shocked the EU, but which any visitor to Dublin could have predicted.
