The students who stayed at home didn't allow themselves to be put in the shade by the excursioners! In a GLC exercise, they wrote about "epiphanies" they had experienced during their travels. "Epiphanies" is a term used by James Joyce to describe moments of insight or illumination; he based his short stories in Dubliners (1914) on the protagonists' sudden (and often painful) realizations.
