Chasing Aldi

On our way from the airport to Avalon House on the first evening, the first thing we really noticed was a SPAR market. "Yeah," we thought, "a German supermarket! Let's save some money and buy our food there." We saw about 15 of those SPAR markets from the taxi, but it took us a whole day to find one near Avalon House. When we finally found one, we were really disappointed. Obviously, the Irish didn't know what the word "SPAR" meant: The only shop that was more expensive was a pharmacy!

But there remained some hope: Walking around in Dublin, we saw loads of people carrying ALDI bags. So we started looking for the ALDI, but in vain. We even asked people who were carrying ALDI bags, but even they couldn't tell us! So my theory is: The location of the ALDI is a secret which is only known by the Irish. That secret is passed on from grandmother to mother to child and so on. It is impossible for a stranger to find the ALDI, so only the Irish can benefit from the low prices!
