Nine students "shadowed" Bath professionals for a day during our excursion to Bath. Sina König spent a day at the Roman Baths, Stephanie Fäustel and Svenja Zenz stayed at the Bath Film Festival office, Martin Orgill and Linda Doschke were at the Tourist Information, Jennifer Koch and Helena Hartmann did their shadowing at the Bath Abbey, Katrin Wagner was offered an insight into the Self-Access Language Centre at the University of Bath and Elisabeth Gieseler shadowed at a translation office. We all gained impressions of the everyday work in these institutions.
We were able to look over the shoulders of the staff, participated in the work, looked behind the scenes or were even allowed to do little tasks or see places where regular tourists are not allowed to go.
It was a very positive experience for all of us. We met interesting people, saw the infrastructure of different offices and learnt new things. Everyone was very satisfied with his or her shadowing and enjoyed it, even if it was very short. Our thanks to our friendly and supportive hosts!
