Kinnie: Golden Lemonade

I think no one else will, and I feel the duty to write about the island's unique lemonade - but I also want to do it J. I'm talking about KINNIE. There are contrasting opinions concerning the taste of the apple juice-coloured soft drink which contains the aroma of bitter oranges and flavours of 18 different herbs. When served chilled, this bittersweet combination is quite refreshing.

For Kinnie's golden jubilee on Malta, we had a chance to get a glass for free, so almost all of us tried it. To my great astonishment, as being one directly taken with this never-known taste, there were few people sharing my opinion. If I could I would have brought a whole box of bottles home, but space allowed just 1 litre of the local drink with 50 years of tradition. Unfortunately Kinnie cannot be obtained in German supermarkets, although it can be ordered through one importer. Surely it sounds crazy to call a lemonade a hjighlight, but I just had to mention it. If I ever return to Malta, I'll definitely drink no Coke!
