2001: display boards, colourful streamers, balloons, snacks at bistro tables,
food that differs from the regular Mensa plan, and last but not least, a
beer stand, helping you to get through the day with an even wider smile
on your face. In-between, a flock of students with violet robes and green
shamrocks on their faces. And all this at a German university???
Yes, because it's an Irish Fair, this year's special event announced by
big green-white-orange flags decorating the Audimax foyer. The place for
meetings, conversations and lots of fun was arranged and decorated by the
students of Phil's and Cathy's GLC classes in hard but interesting work.
Having spent five days in Dublin, the students now had the opportunity to
present their impressions of the "Green Isle" and their project work, ranging
from Trinity College, Guinness Brewery and Irish Fairy Tales, to astonishing
live performances of Irish music and dance. All students and staff were
invited to visit the fair and to join the various presentations and projects.
Even in the local press you could find an advertisement aiming to attract
visitors from outside the university. No wonder journalists came, and a
big color photo and article could be admired in the newspaper the following
day.
It's events like these that make university life varied and interesting,
and provides an atmosphere that brings people together outside the normal
classes and courses.
