It was an interesting experience to interview the Scots. At first we couldn´t find people who had the time to give us an interview but after we went to a park in the city center we could choose the ones we wanted to interview. They were all very friendly and openhearted and even after we finished an interview the people went on to talk to us. We had a great time with them and enjoyed the conversations after the interviews.

Young man: Aye!
I.: Where were you born?
y.m.: (says name of a town)
I.: Where is that?
y.m.: It’s a town about 30 miles from here.
I.: Do you like it here?
y.m.: No, not at all.
I.: Why not?
y.m.: It’s too cold and too noisy.
I.: So, where would you like to go then?
y.m.: (thinks about it for a few seconds)…Cyprus!
I.: Alright.
I.: What is special about Edinburgh?
y.m.: I think the tourism probably.
I.: Okay.
I.: Do you think Scotland will soon get the Euro?
y.m. Yeah.
I.: Why?
y.m.: Because everybody else does, so…

Interview partner: older man (about 65)

Interviewer: Guess what country we are from?
Old man: Australia.
I.: No, we are not from an English-speaking country…
o.m.: Canada? America?
I.: No, Germany.
I.: What is typical German or typical Scottish?
o.m.: Typical German…What do you mean? Well, we’ve got the kilts across here and the Germans got the “Lederhosen”[…]
group: Yeah!
o.m.: What more do you want?
I.: We meant the characters of the people, how they are…
o.m.: Ah, they [the Germans] are very friendly here and they talk to everyone. Like me, you see? (laughs) Talk to everyone…and they are very pleasant.
