Robin Hood’s Bay

by Stephanie-Viktoria Schmitt

On our last trip through the Yorkshire landscape we went to Robin Hood’s Bay – which I do believe is the most picturesque and charming fishing town I have ever seen. Robin Hood’s Bay is located five miles south of Whitby, on the coast of North Yorkshire. The origin of the name is uncertain, and it is very doubtful if Robin Hood was ever there. To reach the beach you have to climb a million steep steps down the main road. The steps lead you directly through the town, where beautiful little houses and shops frame the road. When you reach the bottom of the steps you can choose: either you face the adventure and climb down the rocks or use the secure stone stairs. The view you get standing on the beach is marvellous. The wide open sea, the headlands called North Cheek, South Cheek and Old Peak which frame the beach on either side and somehow guard the bay.
