When I was five years old I heard an old lady claim: “Dogs always say something about their owners”. Since we had a dog I did not dare to ask my mum what the lady meant. So I walked through the village keeping track of all dog owners. However I still did not understand what wisdom the lady was trying to pass on to me. Growing up, I learnt all about German sayings – but not until we wandered around Haworth Village and I saw the man in this photograph with his canine did I really grasp the deeper significance of that saying!
