The University of York

by Kasia Kuklewska

My personal highlight of our York excursion was the University of York itself. I refer especially to the Heslington campus. It is the main campus and it looks like a landscaped park. You can see flowers and trees everywhere. There is a big lake which has attracted a large population of waterfowl. One day I even saw a black swan! In the middle of the lake there are fountains, and when the sun is shining you can also see a rainbow. Scattered around the lake there are buildings which are connected by numerous walkways and bridges. There are kiosks, bookshops and even supermarkets on the campus. But the major landmark building is the Central Hall. It is a octagonal concert hall, which looks somehow like a spaceship, and is used for University convocations and examinations as well as for theatrical and musical performances. The whole campus is very beautiful, it seems to be so close to nature, so calm and relaxing. I really enjoyed the atmosphere there! I think, it would be great if our University could be a little bit more like the University of York!!
