It was quite hard to pick one highlight from the excursion to Yorkshire because there were so many: the city, the landscape, the Evil Eye, the group dynamics…… Before we went on the excursion I was mostly looking forward to seeing the beautiful landscape and especially the sheep because I could not imagine that they were really running around freely and almost everywhere. So I could not believe my eyes when we met a small group of sheep on a meadow without any fence. When we got near them they just ran away and crossed a street without any person or dog looking after them. I thought it would be wonderful if it was the same here, but I think the people here would never get used to that. The only stupid thing was that one could not get near the sheep to make some “real” contact because they could run away in every direction they wanted. But it was even better to only watch them living their life so freely. Another event that was definitely one of my highlights was the evening when some people had a party in the kitchen of our house. A friend of mine had brought a David Hasselhoff CD with her and we decided to listen to it because she wanted to play one special song to us called “Du”. As the title already demonstrates, it is a song that David Hasselhoff sings in German, which made it even more funny to us. We played it several times and couldn’t stop listening to it although we were laughing our heads off. It did not take long for us to memorize the lyrics so we tried to accompany the howling of David. (I felt quite sorry for the people living next to us. I think we didn’t sing a single note right because we didn’t even try and didn’t stop singing the whole evening.) The special “highlight” of the evening was an English guy who came to our party uninvited because he had heard our “singing” from outside. He tried to sing with us although it was a German song and finally managed to sing the chorus. When we met him the next morning he greeted us with singing the lines he still remembered. We came to the conclusion that this was a big success, so after that evening “Du” became a themesong for the excursion for us. ![]() Jessica interviewing sheep |
