When Cathy told us to write some lines about our personal highlight of the excursion, there were many ideas which came to my mind, e.g. the Evil Eye Lounge or the wonderful nature of the Yorkshire Dales. But there was one thing that surprised me a lot and that should not be forgotten, in my eyes. It was part of our journey to England and back home again: the ferry.

I had never travelled by ferry before and when I heard that our trip to Great Britain would lead us over the huge North Sea, many prejudices came to my mind. I was unsure and a little bit afraid of getting seasick or even of sinking with the ship. But all these thoughts disappeared very fast when I stood in front of a big, white and blue ferry, which looked very secure and unsinkable. Although a few doubts remained (after all the Titanic had been claimed to be unsinkable, too!), I felt much more comfortable.

The ferry which carried us back to Rotterdam was especially awesome ( :-) ). It is called “The Pride of Rotterdam” and is the biggest ferry in the world. I was totally impressed, because I had expected a much smaller and older ship with no luxury, which would shudder with every wave. But the only thing I felt was ‘good vibrations’ on entering the ferry. Our cabins were tiny but nicely arranged with bunkbeds. The ferry had a casino, several shops (duty-free!!!), a cinema with current films, bars, a ‘disco’ with a live band, where we partied almost the whole night long, and a sunset lounge with many benches to sit on and watch the sunset in the evening as well as the beautiful sunrise in the morning. After a night with much entertainment and legs tired from dancing we fortified ourselves in the Four Seasons restaurant with nearly everything you can imagine for breakfast – from English baked beans to croissants and fresh fruit. After having had breakfast, we left the ferry and all my doubts seemed to be erased! All in all: A wonderful trip!!! One I’d do again any time!!
