On our first day in York we were given a sheet of paper with questions on the city and history of York. One look through it revealed that finding the answers all by ourselves would be a difficult task. So we were in desperate need of natives. But where do you find a bunch of both nice and knowledge-fed Yorkers? Well, we started in a bookstore, but to our immense disappointment three young male employees were only able to provide us the names of the two rivers in York. They confirmed to us that we were indeed dealing with tricky questions. What a help…! Slightly discouraged, we returned to the inner city. Suddenly we had an idea. Who is your friend and helper, when you need one? Right. A policeman. Here we were, interrupting the work of a faithful law officer with numerous questions. But, guess what, he knew nearly all the answers. He was very nice and patient with us. Under the disguise of project work, we took pictures and began a conversation with him. His lisp sounded so sweet. I mean, after all, this excursion is all about getting into contact with the natives, right? :-) |
