Snowdon, the legendary mountain
The absolute highlight was definitively our approach
to climb up the summit of Snowdon. The idea was born spontaneously while
we had a short stop at the foot of Snowdon and went up just a few meters.
The view of the landscape was spectacular and overwhelming. So we decided
to come back in the evening to enjoy the fantastic nature while being
active in climbing up the highest mountain of Wales & England.
When we arrived back in the evening it was mistier than it had been before,
which affected the landscape in a special way, creating a unique atmosphere.
At our starting point you could see the clouds moving by not far above
you hiding everything above a few meters, letting your imagination creating
a mystic feeling. After climbing up the “way” created of stones
integrated into the natural surrounding the path led to a spectacular
view over deep green valleys with undisturbed nature giving you the feeling
of being sent back hundreds of years when there were still people living
in harmony with nature. Taking a deep breath of clean air we moved on
to go higher up to discover more great places hidden by the uprising mist.
Walking along with a hiker's stride we reached the height where we got
surrounded by the mist. It was like feeling the Odem, the true spirit
of the land. If you stop for a while and listen to the wind you can hear
the land talking to you, telling ancient stories of King Arthur which
took place a long time ago…
A bit further up, where we found a crystal clear small “waterfall”
we stopped to refill our bottles with clean great tasting water, cleaned
by running down its path along the mystical mountain. The refreshing taste
gave back some of our strength. We were eager to discover more fantastic
faces of Snowdon. We went on for a while absolutely fascinated by the
landscape and the special atmosphere when we suddenly realized that it
was time to go back; therefore we started to look out for the crossing
to take the way back down. It the meanwhile the mist was getting thicker
and we didn’t find the way down. There was no choice but to go the
same way back we came up… When we finally reached our starting point
again we all were exhausted but more than happy and feeling deeply touched
by the spirit of the land...
We hope to return soon to go up to the summit next time!
P.S. Special thanks to Phil, without whose generous offer to join us and
especially to drive us there by car, we would have missed this unique
highlight! THX Phil!
