Carter Revard

For our Contemporary Writers’ Forum in November 2006, we were pleased to welcome the renowned scholar and poet Carter Revard. Part Osage, he was born in Oklahoma and has taught at numerous American universities. In February 2006 he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Native Writers’ Circle of the Americas.

Prof. Revard introduced himself to us, read some of his poems, and then conducted an exercise. The students were particularly fascinated with his combination of Old English poetry forms and Native American themes. They were also amazed by the anecdotes describing his encounters with JRR Tolkien!

We certainly thank the Amerika-Haus Cologne for sponsoring this event; special thanks to Jürgen Bodenstein for driving Carter Revard to Siegen and taking the photos.
