carvings and cats in Wells Cathedral |
Besides the visit to Kingswood School, which is the best equipped, most beautiful and most expensive school I've ever seen, I had some other favourite activities. These consisted in exploring the lovely building of Bath Abbey, discovering interesting places in Bath with the help of a well-informed and entertaining tour guide, absorbing the aura of nice traditional English pubs (which are by the way quite important, both socially as well as culturally, because one can socialise with a lot of natives there and even might get to know something about the culture), looking round the amazing Roman Bath, and our spontaneous trip to Bristol with only a few students. But the activity I took most pleasure in was our day out in Wells, Glastonbury and Lynton. That day was almost perfect. Neither was it too cold to wait for the bus in the morning nor did Kevin, the bus driver, bore us in any way. And Wells Cathedral is one of the most gorgeous works of art I've ever seen. It is so rich in different architectural styles, and one can find numerous hidden surprises like little carvings in dark corners or sleeping cats in the cathedral shop. It didn't take me a long time to make up my mind to come back to this place one day and stay for a bit longer. Dorothee Schammelt |
