My highlight on the trip to South England was definitely all the cathedrals we visited. I am so fond of Gothic architecture and during our excursion I could see evidence of the overwhelming richness of architectual art that England has sheltered for so many centuries now. In Germany something like this doesn't exist in such variety and pureness. Whether it was destroyed during World War II or re-designed due to the whims of ever-changing Kings and Lords - monuments of such ancient beauty and thick atmosphere, full of heart-striking treasures of human creativity are rather rare in my home country. I wished we had had more time to experience every single one of the cathedrals and the surrounding areas, like the Bishop's Place in Wells and the Gothic buildings in Salisbury. I could have dwelled there, worshipping the stone-mason and artisans' work for hours.
Well, but considering Wells - I have to add another photo: featuring the most ridiculous sight of this excursion!
