a personal moment in Bath Abbey |
After I had spent a lot of time exploring the interior of the Abbey and reading inscriptions of epitaphs, I was interrupted by a man in a black robe. "Are you enjoying it? Isn't it wonderful how old all this is and it's still standing!" So I started to talk to the minister and told him about my hometown, Braunschweig, because I knew that the cathedral there and Bath Abbey have kind of a partnership. "Braunschweig! I know Braunschweig", he said, "I worked in the town hall when the agreement was signed and I've been there several times, nice city. Great to have you here!" He said good-bye and ascended the pulpit for a short meditation. Afterwards, he saw me sitting in the back row and noticed two women somewhere in the front rows, went near them and asked them: "Are you from Braunschweig too?"
"…No…?."
- "Imagine: that lady over there is from Braunschweig! Where are you from?"
"…We're from Australia."
- "Well, that's okay. Australia must be beautiful, too."
