a (nearly) perfect film

My highlight of the week in Bath might appear a bit awkward at first sight. First of all: The whole week was a chain of highlights overshadowed only a bit by the top-class mattress in my room. It could well be, though, that the beds just weren’t appropriate for elderly people like myself….
Of course the cathedrals, the architecture, the old Roman Baths, the big stones, inviting park benches, the gorgeous weather, the theatre and the Bath night life would have qualified to be real highlights. Not to be forgotten: the Full English Breakfast in the Abbey Yard, Lynton and Lynmouth, the cathedral close in Salisbury and the smallest (and probably cutest) English city: Wells.
ticket Nevertheless: My highlight was the visit to the cinema! I really was astonished by the brilliant adaptation of Ian McEwan’s novel “Atonement”. To me it was the most welcome coincidence that the film had just been released in England the week before we arrived. The film itself is one of the (nearly) most perfect adaptations of literary works I have come across. James McAvoy’s acting is outstanding if you ask me – I even liked Keira Knightley’s performance more than I expected to. Being very close to the novel I think "Atonement” as a film is just as good as it gets. A must!
