Today Edinburgh is not only one of the most beautiful cities in Scotland which is known for its architecture and culture, but also contains one of the largest universities in the United Kingdom. What makes studying at the University of Edinburgh so special?
From its location in the heart of Scotland's capital, the University of Edinburgh has been promoting and setting standards in education for over 400 years. Granted its Royal Charter in 1582 by James VI, the son of Mary, Queen of Scots, the University was founded the following year by the Town Council of Edinburgh, making it the first post-Reformation University in Scotland, and the first civic University to be established in the British Isles. It is a large multi-faculty institution with over 200 buildings spread over the city of Edinburgh. The majority of these are located at two sites, the George Square Central Area which houses the majority of Arts, Education, Law, Medicine, Music and Social Sciences departments and the King's Buildings campus where the majority of the Science and Engineering departments are located.
Foreign students are made to feel at home in many ways at the University of Edinburgh!
