Here are a few group poems, many playful, composed in a GLC class exercise, each student contributing a line!

Scotland is highlands
full of open-hearted people,
castles and myths
cloudy, stormy, rainy.
Dark and deep lochs
within circles of grass.
On it: countless sheep
feeling free
in a place where nature is at home
and which is worth every moment.

Scotland is a land of green
where the people aren’t mean
They play bagpipes in their kilts
and that music gives us chills
Here the people find peace in nature
‘cause it’s not half as crowded as Asia
The weather’s not always nice
but still it’s a paradise
Sometimes the ch-sounds are hard to pronounce
but at this point we must announce
that for us it is OK
that people speak their own way
You should always keep in memory
Brad Pitt is not Sean Connery!

Scotland is a dream of nature at its best
Scotland is where sunshine puts a smile upon your face
Scotland is better than the rest
Scotland is simply the most beautiful place
Scotland is a light that will never fade
Scotland is where dreams are made
Scotland is sometimes cold and rough,
However, it’s my everlasting love.

Scotland…

where men in beautiful kilts

play the bagpipes on green hills
never-ending mystery
and interesting history
rainy and foggy highland weather
could sometimes be a little better
where tourists can search for Nessie
and old castles sometimes get messy
even if the haggis seemed to be rotten
Scotland will never be forgotten!

Scotland is a secret promise, cast in stone
a lot of castles, one and one
Scotland is haggis, shortbread and a cookie
where “whis” is the “key” to every rookie
Scotland is sightseeing and breathing clean air
the country where Sean Connery lost his hair
Scotland is a green landscape with lovely sheep
it is the land of Mary whose memory I shall keep

Scotland is…
full of sheep
with mountains high
and waters deep
high and low land
never end
Glasgow arts and architecture
Edinburgh not much manufacture
rough weather combined with wild beauty
being there was our pleasant duty
bagpipes, tartans, Nessie, haggis
great from front to back is
Scotland!

Scotland is
a deeply sleeping beauty
rocked asleep by the melancholy sound of the bagpipe
only to awake to the stormy roughness of its weather
once awake –
worth every moment
and never to be forgotten

Scotland is
wild exaggeration
stormy fascination
cold temptation
rough creation
made by your own imagination

Turn your face into the storm
feel the freedom
spread your arms
feel the power
breathe in deeply
feel your spirits,
body and soul flying

Scotland is the melody of a bagpipe
and it’s blue and white
Scotland is breath-taking,
just heart-breaking
Scotland is a country of heroes
and also of prose
Scotland is William Wallace
and Robert Burns
Scotland is a secret promise
and a soft, mysterious kiss
Scotland is highlands and bravehearts
and other people who fought hard
Scotland is men in kilts
living on green hills
Scotland is a fairy tale
and a lot of dark, strong ale!

Scotland is landscapes with many shades of green
the country of the strangest food you’ve ever seen
where people wear tartans every single day
and keep old traditions, well that’s what they say
the country of Mary, a historical Scot
but never think that the weather is hot
because if you go there don’t forget to take
an umbrella with you when you go to the lake
to wait for the monster which never comes out
Scotland, land of bagpipes, ringing loud
the country of sheep and of whisky and beer
whoever’s been to it just wants to stay here!
